What do you eat?

This page is for my friends that ask the question:
What do you eat?

The simple answer is anything that is good for you.
So then... what is 'bad'?

Every body has different needs so lets first take a look at yours and start from scratch.

Elimination ~ yes, start with nothing and add only things that are not allergen sources.  You need to know that not all allergies are shown by itching, scratching, or watery eyes.  Some allergies are shown by headaches, tummy upsets, bowel problems, skin sensitivities, acne, and other common things that we think are just unavoidable and normal occurrences like fast weight gain or loss.  Yep, weight gain.

  • Keep it simple.  When you look at an item in the grocery store check the label.  If it has more than four ingredients, takes a doctorate in science to read or understand,  contains ingredients that your grandparents or great-grandparents wouldn't recognize as food... leave it at the store.  If you have so-called foods like that in your pantry... donate them or throw them away.
  • Avoid foods that contain salicylate (grapes, apples, berries, etc).  This website had a wealth of information on Salicylate Sensitivity.
  • Again... Kick out boxed cereals and other so-called foods in a box (they typically have more than 4 ingredients).  Stick with stuff that your Great-Great Grandparents would have recognized as food.
  • Say bye-bye to wheat (go gluten free)
  • No white sugar, white rice, etc.  These things are highly processed, many contain chlorine as they were processed using it and are devoid of a lot of essential nutrients that the product they are made from has.  They can also cause hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia (aka diabetes) as well as a whole host of medical conditions.
  • No pork.  Yes, I said pork.  It rots in the gut and sticks inside way too long.  The Bible ain't wrong folks.  No Catfish either.
  • Do away with corn syrup, food dyes, MSG, and preservatives.

Now you say,  "Wait a minute!  What can I eat?"
Here is the short of the very long list.
  • Anything that you or some guy in his back yard or farm can grow without pesticides.
  • Brown Rice
  • Yams/Sweet Potatoes  ~ YUM!
  • limit your consumption of regular store bought potatoes as they are starchy and can cause a hypoglycemic response.  We Love potatoes here and alternate between brown rice, buckwheat groats, Quinoa, and home grown just dug potatoes that have not had time to develop the starches that easily convert to sugars that is typical of the stored potatoes you find in the supermarket.
  • Fruits:  Pineapple [contain an amino acid that helps curb your cravings for the delectable bad stuff you are eliminating], pears, peaches, and bananas are just a few fruits that are also staples.  Try to get Organically raised fruits that are in season.  Stock up and freeze what you can.
  • Walnuts - Japanese school children often eat a handful of walnuts before going in to take an exam.  High in Omega fatty acids they kick start your brain power.
  • Pine Nuts are also high in Omegas and other nutrients and delicious!
  • Madjool Dates - we do whole, not pitted.  High in potassium, manganese, and copper.  Yes, we need copper.
  • Don't forget your shrooms!  They can even be used as a meat substitute.  Portabellas have more potassium than bananas.  Oyster mushrooms have more potassium than portabellas!  Oyster shrooms have a special cancer fighting antioxidant called LE.  'king trumpet' = oyster mushroom check out that site for more amazing information.
  • Fish, Fish, Fish : Salmon is a powerhouse filled with omega fatty acids that are ohhh so good for you.  Tuna... now watch this!  Can NOT contain preservatives or soy!  I found one that is a gold label [only at walmart in our area crud :( ...] that is tuna packed in olive oil.  If you don't like tuna you have to get a can of this stuff.  It will change your life!  You really don't even know you are eating tuna!
  • Avoid 'farm raised' fish.  Get only wild caught.  Farm raised is done in ponds that contain high amounts of contaminants.  And are fed things that are NOT natural and have high contamination rates.
  • Real Peanut Butter and Real Jelly are ok.  Peanut butter is peanuts and salt.  Jelly is fruit and pectin - you might be able to find someone at the farmers market that is making it that way.  If not... there is your special nitch of something to make and sell there!  Try to get Organic or grown organically from farmers market vendors.
  • Gluten free flours are great.  I make my own blend up for pancakes, crepes that can be used as roll-ups/pinwheels/wraps for sandwiches instead of wheat containing breads.  It uses brown rice flour (1 cup), white rice flour (1/2 c), and tapioca flour 1/2 c).  If I want pancakes I add an egg, a little salt, vanilla, and backing powder... maybe some banana or peanut butter and if we have been watching our berry intake I might use blueberries in small quantity.  I may even throw in a handful of fresh ground flax or chopped walnuts (no preservatives) for some extra omegas.  I also keep a supply of organic dry coconut flakes around and may throw in a handful of that.  And of course raw milk or rice milk.  If I want dinner crepes for roll ups etc I use the flours, egg, salt, and milk.  I make all kinds of sandwiches out of this.  My families fav is tuna in olive oil, mayo, fresh spinach, and freshly grated cheese.  roll it up yum!
  • Why Coconut is so good ~ it aids in digestion, is one of the good fats... so, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil is a staple to keep in the pantry.  Works great when making desserts or popping popcorn in oil instead of the hot air popper.  Helps clean up your body - Kills Candida!  If you have wheat or gluten issues it will help you out too.  You may  not know you have problems with wheat until you eliminate it for several months and then go back to eating it again.  If feeling sluggish, having headaches, belly aches, etc... you may have a problem with wheat.  You may want to run a search for celiac disease or candida infection.  And then run a search for gluten free recipes.  Coconut flour is great and there are a lot of recipes available online.  There is also a book all about the wonderful cures of the humble coconut.  This is also a wonderful website that can tell you more about coconut.  We use a lot of products from Coconut Secret.
  • Go organic when ever you can.  Shop your farmers market - grow your own - have a retired family member... help them take up gardening on a bigger scale (do they have a fair sized yard?)  Grow a raised bed garden... you can pack a lot into it.  Use your FRONT yard for garden space!  Who cares!  it is all pretty, has flowers and is green.  Grow dif basils... I have one that is called Cinnamon basil that is a striking burgundy color with pink flowers.  Pretty!  Easy to grow and gets BIG.  A real curb stopper.  Even onions are pretty in a landscape and lettuce - wow!  Just think outside of the box!  For real!  This is two fold.  Growing your own food makes you get outside and weed, water, watch (breathing fresh air and getting D from the sun)... read "bend and exercise & meditate).  The inches will float off your back and waistline.  I'm a prime example this year.  For the last two years I have been unable to do real work in the garden due to a broken arm and being pregnant.  I was wearing 18!!!!  OUCH! (you won't find many pics of me during that time!)  I am back down to a 12 and some 14's in certain cuts. (working on getting down to an 8... I think I can, I think I can...) And have a lot more energy!  LOVE IT!  Have you checked out Straw Bale gardening???  Way cool!  You should try it.  Less bending over and no weeding.  Very cool!  I am going to get some bales and try it out to see if it will work in our area as well.
  • Barleans Flax OilThey have one now called Omega Swirl.  YUM!  There are too many reasons why to eat this.  Just visit the link!!!  You won't be sorry you took the time.
  • Raw Milk - follow the link for why
  • Yogurt - Plain, NOT low fat!  I sometimes use this as the starter culture to make my own.  Can mix kefir and yogurt together to make my own yummy for the tummy good bacteria stuff.
  • Kefir - make your own or first start getting Lifeway Kefir at the grocery or healthfood store.  Yummy for your tummy with 10 beneficial bacteria!
  • Kombucha tea
  • Cheese.  At the very least find a cheese that is free of dyes and NOT Yellow/Orange.  That is fake.  I get Cabot Extra Sharp Cheddar - White.  I have also found cheeses that are not made from pasteurized milk!  Those are the BEST!  Goat cheese made by someone locally milking and making cheese is a wonderful treat.
  • Vitamins/Supplents:  SAM-e, B-12 complex ~ liquid you drop under you tongue, .....Aloa juice, vitamin e oil, cod oil - lemon flavor, Co-Q-10, L-Carnitine... Vit D... Barleans Flax oil
  • Vitacost.com is our source for most supplements including our protein shake powder.   Toothpaste (fluoride free!).  Pads (dioxin free).  diapers (dioxin free) I get at diapers.com  _ I have a coupon you can use there for $10 off~  just type in My Referral Code: $10free! ~ doesn't have to be diapers... they have LOTS of stuff there.  You win and I get some money off future orders too.

  • Redmonds Real Salt and Celtic Sea Salt!  NO! iodized/bleached stuff here.  The Celtic and Redmonds have a naturally occurring iodine that your body CAN use and does not mask the symptoms of being deficient in iodine.
  • Honey, Stevia, Maple Syrup, Coconut Nector, Coconut Palm Sugar or Xylitol (watch that you get non gmo &/or organically derived xylitol - if you can).  The Land of Milk and Honey.... Honey is loaded with B-vits and amino acids that are powerhouses to our bodies.  It also acts as an antibiotic of sorts, has NO expiration date!, and local honey is a natural way to 'immunize' against all kinds of allergies.
  • REAL butter, Coconut Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Olive Oil.     Margarine is Garbage and deserves to be thrown in the can!  It is a killer... get it out of your house now.
  • Absolutely NO Hydronated anything!
  • All of this also goes for toiletries too.  You have to watch it as these chemicals are easily absorbed through you scalp while using shampoos or on your lips as lip balm etc.  Also pads, diapers, etc while also being not so friendly to the environment can be TOXIC to us as well.  The dioxins can cause us to have cramps and severe bleeding during our periods and sometimes extend them longer than they need be.  Mine went from 7-8 days to 3!  And NO CRAMPING!  With diapers the dioxins poison our children.  And Childrens Children.  It is already causing major fertility problems.
  • Avoid Fluoride
  • Most of all ~ you are your childrens and your own best advocate.  You have the power to make decisions that are better for your family and yourself.  Also, you have the power to put those lowlife hydronating, fluoride adding, bleaching, chemical adding corps out of business... just don't buy their stuff!
  • Food for thought ladies:  Did you know that while you were growing in your mom, your eggs were being made.  So, what your mom ate has a direct effect on her grandchildren.  So, whether it is genetics or eating behaviors, we will never really know.  Though they say it is genetic... many disorders have a trigger - usually food based - that makes them say "hi... here I am!"  and kick you right in the rear.
Cooking Tools
Do not use:
  • plastic
  • aluminum
  • Teflon coated
  • Things made in China (you never know what waste material they are going to try to rid themselves of by using it in our food containers)
To use (American Made only!):
  • Cast Iron
  • Stainless
  • Copper
  • Porcelain coated pots, pans, and bake ware.  The old speckeled ware stuff.  You really have to watch this stuff as they are now being mass produced in China.
  • Glass
Problem ~ Solution:
  • yogurt comes in plastic ~ make your own.
  • milk comes in plastic or plastic lined paper ~ get raw milk and store in glass gallon jars (old pickle jars work great.  You can usually find these at pizza places and other restaurants.  Just ask the cook or manager to save them for you and make sure you go back for them.  They are GOLD!)
  • Cheese comes wrapped in plastic ~ re-wrap in paper and put in glass or wood box in fridge.
  • produce comes wrapped in plastic.  ~ shrooms - put in terra cotta pot use the saucer as a lid ~ Clean fruits and veggies when you get home and use stainless and or glass for storing them.  Sorry... bye bye Tupperware.
  • juices ~ first of all you shouldn't even bother buying pasteurized juice as it is devoid of all the good stuff it had to begin with.  If you buy frozen canned make sure not from concentrate and mix it up with your own chlorine free fluoride free water.  Canned juices are fine until you go to use them.  Add a little water as they are so loaded with sugar due to the canning process.  I rarely use them.  Mainly using them as an addition to our smoothies.  When I do I don't have to add any honey even when using plain yogurt.
Think outside the box.

I hope this gives you a good start.
